Prompt for Friday, May 1, 2026:
A common idiom heard in the ag community is that farmers wear many hats. While this can be taken quite literally (ball caps are an incredibly popular giveaway item at farm shows), in the figurative sense, it calls attention to the many tasks farmers address to keep their farm up and running: keeping the planter running in the spring, moving seed from the shed to planter as needed, feeding and daily care of livestock, managing bookwork…the list goes on.
A similar but more tangible interpretation of the many scenarios a farmer might find themselves in across any given day can be shown via footwear. Which brings us to this weekend’s social media prompt:
Show us your farm boots!
Ideally, this is in the literal sense: a photo of you wearing them (or multiple photos with different boots meant for different tasks), lining each pair you’ll wear in a day near the back door for a photo, a video review critiquing the footwear choices of you and others around the farm – you get the picture.
What’s the story behind each pair of boots? Why are you wearing them? Are they appropriate and safety-oriented for the task at hand? Are they nearly worn through but the most comfortable you’ve ever owned? Are they reflective of running out of the house to do a few quick chores before/after work or running kids to school drop off/afterschool activities? Are they the first pair of shoes you found to slip on your way out the door after a phone call alerting you that the cows were out? Are they the hand-me-down bright yellow rain boots your toddler is itching to put on so they can go outside and splash in puddles that formed in the gravel driveway during an afternoon thunderstorm?
