Prompt for Friday, June 5th, 2026:

As the days grow longer and temperatures continue to warm across Illinois, gardens are beginning to take shape everywhere from large vegetable plots and carefully planned flower beds to patio containers and a few tomato plants tucked beside the porch.

Gardening season often reflects a mix of tradition, experimentation, and optimism. Some families plant the same favorite varieties year after year, while others try something new each season just to see how it grows. Which brings us to this weekend’s social media prompt:

Show us your garden!

What does gardening look like for you and your family this year? Are you growing vegetables, flowers, herbs, or a little bit of everything? What crops or plants do you routinely come back to each season? Is there anything new you’re trying for the first time?

Maybe your garden is a large part of your summer routine, or maybe it’s a small project squeezed in between chores, work, and family activities. Whether it’s rows of sweet corn, hanging baskets on the porch, or a child proudly watering their first sunflower, every garden has a story behind it.

Consider sharing:

  • What you’re planting this season
  • Favorite vegetables, flowers, or herbs you grow every year
  • New varieties or gardening experiments you’re trying
  • Gardening tip, tricks, or lessons learned over the years
  • Highlight family members who help plant, weed, or harvest
  • Early signs of growth and progress in the garden

Visuals are great for a post like this. Consider creating:

  • Before and after photos from previous seasons
  • A garden tour featuring what’s growing so far
  • A carousel showing planting, weeding, and early growth
  • Favorite recipes that you and your family use with the items from your garden

If you end up using this week’s prompt, we’d love to see it! Drop a direct link to your post or video in the comments.
